Having studied the economic impact of the opioid epidemic, Speaker said the presence - and easy accessibility - of the synthetic drugs fentanyl and carfentanil have had devastating economic effects on West Virginia and other states. Researchers at West Virginia University have studied the overwhelming, detrimental effects of opioid abuse on this state and the nation, and a new wave of the epidemic may be the most daunting yet.
